Alexandra Sophie
Her Work:
My Work:
Alexandra Sophie was born September 30, 1992. She grew up in the French countryside in Belfort. Due to a severe illness, Sophie dropped out of school in 2008 and began seriously working with photography. In 2011, Sophie and her partner had a son named Marin which influenced her motherhood, “Mother Nature,” photography project. She currently lives in a French cottage with her husband and children.
Alexandra Sophie’s work is often compared to that of David Hamilton’s due to her consistent photos of young girls as well as her use of ambient light. Her work often reflects the relationship between humans and nature, water as an example. Sophie also uses feministic qualities, and values the natural body of a woman in her photos. Alexandra Sophie uses her family as one of the main inspirations for her projects. Not counting masks and extra layers, Sophie prefers to use the natural light and tries to stray away from photoshop altering. Sophie’s work has also been used on numerous book covers and jackets.
With my adaptations of Sophie’s work, I tried to capture natural light without the use of photoshop effects. I tried to insert “secret” ghostly images in the way Sophie has in her earlier work. The ghostly like background layers in two of my photos are that of similar to Sophie’s “cany you see the ghost” photo series. With my one natural photo, I blurred out the background and focused in on my cousin’s face, like Sophie’s photo, although it wasn’t focused in on his eyes.
